National Recognition (direct credit transfer)

Odyssey Institute recognises statements of attainment and results issued by other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

To gain Credit Transfers from other relevant studies, students are required to provide verified/notarised copies of statements of attainment or results attained from other training providers. Full fee-paying students may gain a reduction in full fee-paying rates if you are successful in gaining direct credit for some units of competency.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a form of assessment that is accessible to all students who apply to study with Odyssey Institute.  Students may choose to undertake RPL for a single unit or several units of competency.

RPL is a form of assessment that requires the student to collate and provide evidence that can be aligned to each unit of competency performance and knowledge evidence requirements; and which meets the rules of evidence requirements for currency, sufficiency, authenticity and validity

The Odyssey Institute RPL is a five-step process that includes the following:

  1. Apply for RPL – when you apply to enrol or verbally with your nominated assessor once enrolled
  2. Decide which units you want to seek RPL for or that are possible
  3. Collate and submit your evidence to your assessor
  4. Participate in an interview with your assessor
  5. Gain competency via RPL or undertake further training.

Odyssey Institute will provide you with Kit that explains the process fully when you apply for RPL – this Kit can be accessed via the Student Portal once you are enrolled.

Assessment

RPL is an assessment process that assesses an individual’s formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qualification.

Assessment of RPL is based upon mapping the evidence supplied to the elements, performance criteria, essential skills and knowledge indicated in the unit of competency applied for.

Application

There is an RPL package in each course in the Student Portal. Students are given access to this RPL package at the start of their course.

You may apply online for RPL at the same time as applying for your entry into a course of your choosing.  The RPL application form is collapsed below.

RPL and Subsidised Training

If undertaking assessment via Recognition of Prior Learning, subsidies may be reduced for students enrolled in a government-subsidised course.  This is because Recognition of Prior Learning assessment for units is not covered by Victorian Training Guarantee subsidy rates.  Enquire with the Student Coordinator for more information.
